Windows 8 RT: Metro interface + Classic desktop, but on ARM processors. No x86 application support, no ability to install alternative browsers, a lack of applications, no Active Directory support for enterprise, and loftily aiming into the space currently occupied by the iPad/Android tablets. At this point in time, it looks like Win 8 RT is already dead in the water – especially if Microsoft is riding it like WP8 Tablet edition.

Tip: Anti-competitive, closed system measures like that only work if you’re the current leader in the market or have an exceptionally compelling case going for you.

“We share the concerns Mozilla has raised regarding the Windows 8 environment restricting user choice and innovation,” Google said in a statement sent to CNet. “We’ve always welcomed innovation in the browser space across all platforms and strongly believe that having great competitors makes us all work harder. In the end, consumers and developers benefit the most from robust competition.”
